Rekha Gupta presents ₹1,03,700 crore “green budget” with free LPG cylinders and focus on infrastructure
March 24, 2026: Rekha Gupta on Tuesday presented Delhi’s ₹1,03,700 crore Budget for 2026–27, combining welfare measures with a strong push towards sustainability. A key announcement includes two free LPG cylinders annually for every household—one during Holi and another during Diwali—with ₹260 crore allocated to ease financial pressure on families during festive seasons.
The budget also places significant emphasis on civic development, allocating ₹11,666 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to improve infrastructure, sanitation, and local governance. Gupta described the financial plan as a “green budget,” with 21% of the total outlay dedicated to environmental initiatives, reflecting a shift towards sustainable urban planning as the capital battles pollution challenges.
Highlighting economic indicators, Gupta projected tax revenues of ₹74,000 crore and noted Delhi’s high per capita income. She also took a political swipe at the previous government led by Arvind Kejriwal, criticising its “freebie culture” and linking it to past revenue dips. The new budget, she said, aims to strike a balance between growth, welfare, and environmental responsibility.
