Gaurav Gogoi Rejects ‘Pakistan Links’ Charge
Assam Congress chief says SIT report shows no evidence, accuses CM of poll politics
February 10, 2026: Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Monday strongly denied Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allegations of his alleged “Pakistani links,” saying there was nothing in the police or Special Investigation Team (SIT) report to back the claims. Speaking to ABP News, Gogoi said the Chief Minister himself had read the report but failed to find “a single page” of evidence against him, despite raising the issue for over a year.
The rebuttal came after Sarma sought a “transparent explanation” from Gogoi over an alleged visit to Pakistan’s Rawalpindi district, claiming his visa allowed travel only to Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. Gogoi questioned why, if the allegations were serious, the SIT report submitted in September was neither sent to the Centre nor acted upon for six months. He alleged the issue was being revived now only because Assembly elections are just two months away and the Congress is gaining ground in the state.
Responding to claims about his wife’s alleged bank account in Pakistan and espionage allegations, Gogoi called them baseless and misleading. He said the report clearly states that the account is closed and no money transfer took place, adding that his wife’s NGO had also worked in Gujarat during Narendra Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister. Accusing Sarma of politicising national security issues, Gogoi said the SIT never questioned him about his Pakistan travel and that the allegations lacked credibility and intent.
