“Giving political speeches in Rajasthan but…” Kharge slams PM Modi for not speaking in Parliament

New Delhi [India] : Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “disrespecting” the Parliament with his absence from the House and instead making political speeches in poll-bound Rajasthan.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament, Kharge said, “The House is functioning. We are demanding that the Prime Minister come there (Parliament) and make a statement. But he is giving political speeches and campaigning in Rajasthan. When he can go there, can’t he come to the House for half an hour and make a statement?”

“It means that has (PM Modi) no interest, no faith in democracy. He doesn’t want to protect democracy and the Constitution. He is disrespecting the Parliament…” alleged Kharge.

PM Modi on Thursday inaugurated various development projects worth crores in poll-bound Rajasthan and said that his government “stood shoulder to shoulder” with the farmers in the last nine years.

Meanwhile, a team of opposition MPs belonging to I.N.D.I.A is slated to visit Manipur on July 29 and 30 amid their demand for a detailed discussion in Parliament on the situation in the state, which has seen ethnic violence.

“A team of INDIA alliance MPs will visit Manipur on July 29, 30,” an opposition leader said.
The Opposition has been insisting Prime Minister Modi make a statement inside the Parliament on the Manipur situation followed by a detailed discussion.

The Government has accused the Opposition of disrupting the proceedings of both houses of the Parliament and reiterated that it is ready to hold a discussion on the issue.

The monsoon session of Parliament has seen disruptions since its beginning on July 20 with opposition members pressing their demand for a detailed discussion on Manipur and a statement from the Prime Minister.
