Govt To Respond On LPG Shortage In Parliament

Rahul Gandhi raises concern in Lok Sabha amid reports of cooking gas scarcity

March 12, 2026: The Union government is set to respond in Parliament at 4:30 pm to concerns over a reported LPG shortage across India after Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, sought a discussion on the issue. Gandhi urged the Chair to allow the matter to be taken up, citing widespread anxiety among citizens about the availability of cooking gas. The request was accepted, and the government is expected to clarify the situation during the session.

Opposition members argued that the issue requires immediate clarification as liquefied petroleum gas is a key household fuel used by millions across India. Reports of LPG scarcity began circulating earlier this week, triggering concern among consumers and prompting many households to rush to refill their cylinders.

The sudden spike in demand has raised fears of supply disruptions, particularly for sectors heavily dependent on LPG. Industry groups say the hospitality sector, including hotels and restaurants, has been among the worst affected as many rely on commercial LPG cylinders and are facing difficulties securing fresh supplies from distributors.
