“Great Leader”: US Vice President JD Vance Hails PM Modi During Landmark India Visit

On his first official trip to India, VP JD Vance praises Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and warmth, as both nations advance a new strategic and trade roadmap under the India-U.S. COMPACT.

📍New Delhi | April 22, 2025

United States Vice President JD Vance, during his first official visit to India, described meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an “honor” and praised him as a “great leader.” In a warm diplomatic gesture, Vance also expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to his family at the PM’s residence in New Delhi.

“He was incredibly kind to my family,” Vance wrote on X.
“I look forward to working under President Trump’s leadership to strengthen our friendship and cooperation with the people of India.”

🇮🇳🤝🇺🇸 A Defining Partnership of the 21st Century

PM Modi, responding to Vance’s remarks, reaffirmed the enduring strength of the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, describing it as a “defining partnership of the 21st century for India and the world.”

“We are committed to mutually beneficial cooperation, including in trade, technology, defence, energy and people-to-people exchanges,” PM Modi posted.

According to a statement from the U.S. Vice President’s Office, the COMPACT is anchored in mutual trust, shared interests, and robust citizen engagement.

📈 Progress on Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA)

The visit also marked a significant step forward in the long-anticipated U.S.-India Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). Both sides formally announced the finalisation of the Terms of Reference for negotiations.

“BTA presents an opportunity to negotiate a new and modern trade agreement focused on promoting job creation and citizen well-being in both countries,” the statement noted.

The agreement, inspired by India’s ‘Amrit Kaal’ vision and America’s ‘Golden Age’ ambition, aims to promote supply chain integration, economic growth, and balanced bilateral trade.

Vance, accompanied by his wife Usha and their children, arrived in Jaipur for the second leg of their four-day India visit. He is scheduled to tour Agra on April 23, concluding his trip with a departure from India early on April 24.

His visit follows a positive summit between President Trump and PM Modi in Washington earlier this year, signaling renewed diplomatic momentum between the two global powers.
