Gujarat Bypoll 2025: BJP Leads in Both Kadi and Visavadar as Counting Progresses

BJP’s Rajendra Chavda builds a strong lead in Kadi, while Kirit Patel edges ahead of AAP’s Gopal Italia in Visavadar after early rounds of counting.

June 23, 2025 | Gujarat | The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in both the Kadi and Visavadar Assembly seats in Gujarat as counting progresses in the 2025 by-elections. These bypolls are being closely watched as indicators of political sentiment in the state ahead of the next major electoral cycle, especially among Dalit and rural voters.

🗳️ Kadi Assembly Bypoll: BJP’s Rajendra Chavda Pulls Ahead

After six rounds of counting, BJP’s Rajendra Chavda has established a commanding lead in Kadi with 26,005 votes, significantly ahead of:

  • Congress’s Ramesh Chavda: 14,047 votes
  • AAP’s Jagdish Chavda: 794 votes

The seat was necessitated by the death of sitting BJP MLA Karsanbhai Solanki.

Earlier round-wise updates showed a steady surge in BJP’s lead:

  • Round 5: BJP – 21,584 | Congress – 11,137 | AAP – 654
  • Round 2: BJP – 8,232 | Congress – 4,235
  • Round 1: BJP – 4,233

🔄 Visavadar Assembly Bypoll: Tight Race Tilts Towards BJP

In Visavadar, a high-voltage triangular contest saw initial leads by AAP’s Gopal Italia, but BJP’s Kirit Patel overtook him after the third round with:

  • BJP’s Kirit Patel: 10,486 votes
  • AAP’s Gopal Italia: 10,336 votes
  • Congress’s Nitin Ranpariya: 529 votes

Earlier in Round 2, Italia led with a narrow margin:

  • AAP – 7,179 | BJP – 6,788 | Congress – 529

This seat, considered politically sensitive, witnessed a turnout of 56.89%, while Kadi saw 57.90% voter participation.

⚖️ Implications and Political Context

These bypolls are being viewed as a barometer for Gujarat’s Dalit voting behavior, rural sentiments, and the growing influence—or decline—of third parties like AAP in key assembly constituencies. BJP’s early and consistent lead in both seats could reaffirm its stronghold in Gujarat, though the narrow margins in Visavadar point to a more competitive ground than before.
