July 20, 2025: In a deeply disturbing case of alleged domestic violence, a woman police officer was strangled to death by her live-in partner, a CRPF constable, in Anjar, Kutch on Friday night. The tragic incident came to light on Saturday morning when the accused, Dilip Dangachhiya, surrendered at the Anjar Police Station, the same location where the victim was posted.
The deceased, Aruna Natu Jadav, was working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at Anjar Police Station under the Kutch (East) Division. Authorities have launched an investigation into what appears to be a case of a personal dispute turning deadly.
The Relationship and the Fatal Argument
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukesh Chaudhary, Aruna and Dilip had been in a live-in relationship since 2021, after connecting on Instagram. They had been living together in Anjar. On Friday around 10 PM, an argument reportedly broke out between them at their residence. The dispute escalated, and Dilip allegedly strangled Aruna to death in a fit of rage.
“Aruna and Dilip had come into contact through Instagram in 2021. They had an argument late Friday night, and during the altercation, he strangled her,” said DSP Mukesh Chaudhary.
Following the incident, Dilip appeared at Anjar Police Station on Saturday morning and confessed to the crime.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Police have registered a case of murder and are conducting further investigations into the matter, including questioning neighbors, gathering forensic evidence, and analyzing the couple’s communications and history of domestic issues.
The body of Aruna Jadav has been sent for post-mortem examination, and Dilip is currently in judicial custody.
Similar Incident in Mumbai Raises Alarm
This case comes just days after another tragic incident in Mumbai, where 24-year-old Samshuddin Mohammed Hafiz, a chef at a five-star hotel, murdered his live-in partner Kareena Ali, a bar singer, after she refused his marriage proposal. The incident occurred in Mira Road, and Hafiz was arrested shortly after.
According to the police, the couple had frequent arguments over their future, with Kareena choosing to focus on her career before settling down. Hafiz, reportedly fueled by jealousy and suspicion of infidelity, allegedly slit her throat during a heated confrontation.
Rising Concern Over Violence in Live-In Relationships
These consecutive incidents have reignited the debate around the vulnerability of women in live-in relationships, especially when there is a lack of legal protection or social support. Mental health experts and women’s rights activists are urging for more awareness, counseling services, and institutional mechanisms to detect and prevent signs of escalating domestic tension.
The Gujarat State Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the Kutch case and may initiate a parallel inquiry.
