Torrential rains on May 2 brought parts of Delhi-NCR to a standstill, flooding Gurgaon streets, delaying flights, and prompting the IMD to issue a red alert.
May 2, 2025 | A video showing waterlogged roads in Gurgaon went viral Friday morning as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms battered Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), turning the commute into a nightmare and prompting social media users to dub the city a “water park”.

The clip surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the downpour began, with residents posting images and videos of submerged roads, stalled vehicles, and traffic gridlocks across the region.

🚨 Red Alert Issued by IMD
While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a yellow alert, it was upgraded to a red alert around 5:30 am, warning of:
- Severe thunderstorm
- Heavy rain
- Gusty winds at 70–80 km/h
The alert remains in effect till late Friday morning and may extend if conditions persist.
🛫 Flights Disrupted at IGI Airport
At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, adverse weather caused significant disruptions:

- Over 100 flights delayed
- Three flights diverted (One to Ahmedabad, two to Jaipur)
- Cancellations included SpiceJet’s Leh-Delhi and IndiGo’s Leh and Srinagar services
“The adverse weather conditions in the city led to delays in both arriving and departing flights,” said an airport official.
💥 Tragic Casualties in Dwarka
Four people, including a woman and three children, were killed and one person injured when a tree collapsed onto a tubewell room during the storm in Kharkhari village, Dwarka. Officials confirmed the deaths were caused by the combination of high-speed winds and rain-triggered treefall.

Reports of severe waterlogging emerged from:
- Lajpat Nagar
- Dwarka Underpass
- Minto Road
- Khanpur
- DND Flyway
A viral user captioned the situation in Gurgaon:
“Gurgaon is not a city today. It’s a literal water park.”
