Minister says LPG availability intact despite Iran–Israel–US conflict concerns
March 12, 2026: Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday assured the Lok Sabha that India’s crude oil supply remains secure despite the ongoing tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States. His remarks came as opposition members raised slogans during his statement on LPG and fuel availability. Puri said the pressure seen in some areas is not due to production or supply failure but because of a temporary distortion in demand.
The minister informed the House that the government is expanding delivery authentication code coverage for LPG consumers from 50% to 90%. Under this system, a cylinder is marked as delivered only after the consumer confirms receipt through an OTP, a step aimed at preventing diversion and ensuring proper distribution.
Puri also said domestic LPG supply remains fully protected and the average booking-to-delivery cycle is around 2.5 days. He added that hospitals and educational institutions are receiving uninterrupted priority supply, while demand management measures include a minimum booking gap of 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural and durgam regions.
