“He should first win…”: Kailash Vijayvargiya on SP posters portraying Akhilesh as future PM

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India]: Weighing in on the controversy around posters that came up in Lucknow on Monday describing Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, as a “future Prime Minister”, senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said he should first win the Lok Sabha polls next year before entertaining thoughts of taking the country’s most powerful position.

Speaking to media on Monday, the BJP national general secretary, who has been named a candidate for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, said, “The Samajwadi Party and he (Akhilesh) himself, should win (the next general elections) before nursing the dream of becoming the Prime Minister. Everyone in the ‘ghamandiya’ (INDIA) alliance dreams of becoming PM. They can only keep dreaming as the people have resolved to vote Prime Minister Narendra Modi back to office.”

On former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh’s jibe at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan that even PM Modi was apprehensive over his candidature for the November 17 Assembly polls, Vijayvargiya said he did not take the words of the senior Congress leader very seriously.

Earlier in the day, several posters portraying SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav as the “future Prime Minister” were put up by his supporters outside the party’s headquarters in Lucknow.

“Akhilesh Yadav’s birthday is on July 1 but to express their love and respect towards their leader, Samajwadi Party workers celebrate his birthday multiple times. Today, some party leaders and workers are celebrating his birthday,” SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chaand told media in Lucknow.

The SP chief later played down the controversy saying no one can become PM through such posters.
