While Delhi escapes heatwave warnings for now, IMD forecasts severe heat in Rajasthan and Gujarat and widespread rainfall across southern and northeastern states until April 22.

April 17, 2025 |The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several parts of western India, especially Rajasthan and Gujarat, as temperatures continue to soar. Meanwhile, Delhi is expected to experience high temperatures but no heatwave until April 22.

On Wednesday, the national capital recorded a maximum of 39.1°C, 2.3°C above the seasonal average. For Thursday, Delhi is likely to touch 40°C, with a minimum temperature of 25°C. Between April 17–22, the capital may see highs between 38°C and 41°C.

    Fairly widespread rainfall with gusty winds up to 50 kmph

Central & East India (Till April 18)

  • Vidarbha & Chhattisgarh:
    Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph)
  • Bihar (April 17), Tripura (April 16):
    Heavy rainfall forecast

Northeast India (April 17 & April 20–22)

  • States affected:
    Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh
  • Weather Pattern:
    Scattered to widespread rain, heavy spells expected

🌨️ Western Himalayan Region: Western Disturbance Impact

An intense western disturbance will impact the Western Himalayan Region till April 20, triggering:

  • Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (40–50 kmph)
  • Isolated hailstorms: April 18–19
  • Heavy rainfall:
    • Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad
    • Himachal Pradesh (April 18–19)

Additionally, isolated dust storms or thunderstorms are likely over East Rajasthan on April 17, and over northwest plains from April 18 to 20.
