The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported wind speeds of up to 70-80 km/h, causing trees and branches to fall across the city. Though no major property damage has been confirmed, residents were advised to remain indoors.
Friday morning’s temperature dropped to 19.8°C, a stark contrast to Wednesday’s high of 38.1°C, just under the seasonal average.
Yellow Alert Issued, More Rain Expected
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi through Saturday, warning of continued thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds.
Forecasts also indicate moderate rain across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh.
In a broader update, IMD said that north India is likely to witness above-normal rainfall in May, with frequent storms expected to keep temperatures lower than May 2024.
