Horror on Jaipur-Ajmer Highway: Witness Recount Man Burning, Blast Could Be Heard A Kilometre Away

Witnesses recount terrifying scenes of fire and explosions after a deadly crash involving an LPG tanker and multiple vehicles.

December 20, 2024: A devastating accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway on Friday morning resulted in the death of at least seven people and left over 35 injured. The incident was triggered by a collision between an LPG tanker and multiple vehicles, causing a massive fire that gutted more than 30 vehicles and sent thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.

The tanker, reportedly carrying a chemical, collided with several vehicles, leading to continuous explosions. Videos from the scene showed flames engulfing the highway, as firefighters and ambulances struggled to reach the affected area. Over 25 ambulances were dispatched to rescue victims, many of whom suffered severe burn injuries.

Witness Accounts of the Horror

Witnesses described the chaos and devastation they encountered. A school van driver on his way to pick up students recalled the horrifying sight of a man engulfed in flames. “As I approached the spot, I saw people running and shouting for help. A man was completely on fire—it was terrifying,” he told PTI.

Another witness shared that a stretch of 100 to 200 meters of the highway was entirely burned. “When we woke up around 5:30 a.m., we heard a massive blast. Those who managed to jump out survived, but those who couldn’t were burned in the vehicles,” he said.

A passenger traveling on a bus recounted his escape. “Our bus suddenly stopped after a massive blast. Fire was everywhere. The door was locked, so we broke a window and jumped out. Seven to eight others followed. The blasts continued one after another. There was even a petrol pump nearby, which made the situation more dangerous,” he said.


Government Response

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the injured at SMS Hospital in Jaipur and directed officials and doctors to ensure proper treatment for all victims. He also visited the accident site to assess the situation and speak with police officials.

The incident has left a deep impact on the region, with many mourning the loss of lives and expressing concern over the safety of hazardous material transport on busy highways.
