“I Will Go To Your Locality, Create Scene” Estranged Wife Of Delhi Cafe Owner Threatened Before Suicide-Watch

Puneet Khurana’s tragic death followed an intense exchange with his wife Manika Pahwa over property and business disputes, raising concerns about mental health and emotional abuse.

January 2, 2025: In a tragic turn of events, Puneet Khurana, a 40-year-old cafe owner from Delhi’s Model Town, was found hanging in his room on New Year’s Eve. A CCTV video and a recorded phone conversation have since surfaced, revealing a heated, expletive-laden argument between Puneet and his estranged wife, Manika Pahwa.

The Argument That Preceded the Incident

In the viral video, Manika Pahwa can be heard accusing Puneet of ruining her life, stating, “I will go to your locality and create a scene. They keep crying on the phone.” The argument reportedly revolved around their joint business, ‘For God’s Cake’, and financial disputes linked to their ongoing divorce proceedings.

In a 15-minute recorded phone conversation, Manika was heard making several harsh remarks, including calling Puneet a “beggar” and threatening legal consequences. Puneet, in response, repeatedly asked, “Just tell me what you want.”

Family’s Allegations Against Manika Pahwa

Puneet’s family has alleged that Manika made financial demands, including ₹70,000 per month and lawyer fees, to settle the divorce. They also claim that she threatened to implicate Puneet and his family in false legal cases if her demands were unmet.

Puneet’s mother said, “He kept swallowing his grief. My son was doing well, but she tortured him so much yesterday that he took this step.”

Days before Puneet’s suicide, Manika Pahwa posted a cryptic message on social media, claiming she had been subjected to “toxicity and narcissistic abuse” and expressed relief at being free.

Investigation Underway

Puneet’s phone, containing the recorded video and conversations, is now with the Delhi Police, who are investigating the case.

Similar Incident in Bengaluru

The tragic case mirrors the recent suicide of techie Atul Subhash in Bengaluru, who also cited harassment by his wife and in-laws in a 24-page suicide note. Following Subhash’s death, his wife and her family members were arrested.

These incidents highlight the increasing need for mental health awareness, especially in cases involving emotional abuse and financial disputes in marital relationships.
