“I’ll Marry Him”: UP Woman Who Eloped With Daughter’s Fiance Sparks Family Uproar

In a shocking twist from Aligarh, a woman who ran away with her daughter’s fiancé days before the wedding says she wants to marry him. Her decision has left her family furious and her daughter devastated.

April 17, 2025 | In a bizarre family drama from Aligarh, a woman named Sapna has confessed her intentions to marry Rahul Kumar — the man originally engaged to her daughter. She and Rahul had eloped just 10 days before her daughter’s wedding, sparking outrage and disbelief from both families.

Now back in Aligarh after surrendering to the police, Sapna declared publicly, “I will marry him and live with him, whatever happens.” She accused her husband of being abusive and claimed that her daughter too was frequently hostile toward her.

The man at the centre of the storm, Rahul Kumar, also surrendered along with Sapna. A resident of the Dadon police station area, Rahul was supposed to marry Sapna’s daughter, Shivani, on April 16. Instead, he fled with the bride’s mother on April 6, shocking their tight-knit community.

Allegations and Denials

Sapna has denied allegations that she stole valuables from her in-laws’ house. “I only took my phone and ₹200. I didn’t steal anything,” she said. Shivani, however, accused her of taking ₹3.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over ₹5 lakh.

Rahul, while initially unsure, claimed he only eloped with Sapna because she threatened to harm herself. “She told me she’d die if I didn’t meet her at Aligarh bus stop,” he said, narrating how they traveled to Lucknow and Muzaffarpur before returning.

He also alleged that Sapna faced domestic abuse from her husband and his family.

When asked if he truly intended to marry Sapna, he hesitated before replying, “Will do.”

Family Cuts Ties

Sapna’s family, however, wants nothing to do with her anymore. “We don’t want her back. She needs to return what she took,” said her brother-in-law, Dinesh. He demanded legal action and strongly denied her claims of abuse.

“I’ve lived in her house for months. I’ve never seen her being beaten up,” he added.

Despite the dramatic developments, the police have not yet issued any official statement on the case.
