The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and the Delhi-NCR.
According to the weather department, northwest India is set to experience a turbulent weather spell due to the influence of two active western disturbances, which are expected to intensify over the next few days.
Cyclonic circulations forming over the Mediterranean region are expected to trigger widespread showers across northwest India, particularly on April 7 and 8, potentially affecting travel, outdoor activities, and daily routines in several states.
Orange Warning Issued As Snowfall Intensifies In Himachal Pradesh
Following fresh snowfall in higher altitudes, the Shimla Meteorological Office has upgraded its weather warning to an Orange Alert.
Heavy weather conditions are expected to impact districts such as:
- Chamba
- Kangra
- Kullu
- Mandi
- Shimla
Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall, along with isolated hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, are expected across Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand between April 7 and April 10.
Rainfall Forecast Across Northeast India
The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall across northeastern states over the coming days.
Key forecasts include:
- Arunachal Pradesh — Heavy rainfall from April 7 to 12
- Assam and Meghalaya — Rainfall expected on April 8 and 12
- Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura — Rain likely on April 9
These weather patterns may lead to localized flooding and travel disruptions in vulnerable areas.
Delhi-NCR And Nearby States To Witness Thunderstorms
Between April 7 and 8, states including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to witness fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall.
These showers are expected to be accompanied by:
- Thunderstorms
- Lightning
- Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph
Such conditions could lead to traffic disruptions and temporary power outages in urban areas.
Rainfall Expected Across Western And Southern Regions
In western India, isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Gujarat on April 7.
Meanwhile, southern states are also likely to experience wet weather conditions:
- Tamil Nadu
- Puducherry
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh
- Telangana
These regions are expected to receive rainfall between April 7 and April 9.
Additionally:
- Interior Karnataka — Rainfall expected April 9–10
- South Karnataka — Light to moderate rainfall April 6–8
- Coastal Karnataka — Rainfall expected April 9–10

Thunderstorm and hail activity is also forecast across eastern and central regions.
Expected weather activity includes:
- Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim — Thundersqualls on April 8
- Jharkhand — Storms on April 7 and 8
- Bihar — Thunderstorms on April 8
- Odisha — Rain and storms between April 6 and 8
Isolated hailstorms are likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on April 6, and across Bihar and Jharkhand on April 6 and 8.
Advisory Issued For Farmers Amid Weather Volatility
With unstable weather conditions expected across large parts of the country, the IMD has advised farmers and poultry owners in multiple states to take precautionary measures to protect crops, livestock, and infrastructure.
