
India aims to secure 6th title in U19 WC set to kick off on January 19
The 15th Under-19 World Cup is scheduled to begin in South Africa on January 19. India is grouped with the United States of America, Bangladesh, and Ireland. against Saturday, India will take against Bangladesh in their first tournament match. On January 25, they will play their second matchup against Ireland, and on January 28, they will play their final group stage matchup against the USA. On the first day of competition, there will be two matches. The start time of both matches is 1:30 PM IST. In the first match, Ireland will take on the US, while the hosts, South Africa, will square off against the West Indies.
Four groups consisting of 16 competing teams have been formed. The 41-match tournament will conclude in a February final. England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Scotland are in Group B. Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Namibia comprise Group C, whereas Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Nepal comprise Group D. India has won the championship five times and is the current champion. In the previous competition, England was defeated by India, captained by Yash Dhull, by four wickets. Australia has won three times, Pakistan has won twice, and the countries who will host South Africa in 2024 are England, Bangladesh, the West Indies, and South Africa.
The ‘Men in Blue’ will be captained by batsman Uday Saharan in the forthcoming competition. Arshin Kulkarni, an all-rounder, is a player to keep an eye on during the Under-19 World Cup. A middle-order batsman and left-arm spinner, Musheer Khan is the only one in the 15-man squad with first-class experience. In a November quadrangular U-19 series match between Bangladesh, England, and India B, Musheer scored 127 runs off 47 balls and claimed two wickets. He also finished third in the Under-19 Challenger Trophy with 268 runs at a strike rate of 108.
