Diversification and domestic supply push aim to shield economy and farmers

March 24, 2026: India is strengthening its energy security by expanding its network of global suppliers to reduce reliance on any single region. Over the past decade, the country has increased its import partners for crude oil, LNG, and LPG from 27 to 41 nations. This strategic diversification has ensured a steady flow of energy supplies even during ongoing global tensions, with shipments continuing from multiple countries in recent days. The move is part of a broader effort to safeguard the economy from external disruptions.

Alongside imports, the government is focusing on boosting domestic energy distribution. Expansion of city gas networks and piped natural gas connections has significantly improved access for both households and industries. Increased LPG coverage has also played a key role in strengthening India’s internal energy infrastructure, making supply more reliable and widespread.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the current global conflict has created volatility in energy and commodity markets. However, he assured that proactive measures are being taken to minimize the impact on the country. Special emphasis has been placed on the agriculture sector, with sufficient fertiliser stocks secured for the upcoming sowing season to ensure that farming activities continue without disruption.
