September 19, 2025: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has responded to the recent defense agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, stating that it expects Riyadh to be mindful of mutual interests and sensitivities.
The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, made the comments during a weekly press briefing on Friday, in light of the “strategic mutual defence” pact between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. This agreement stipulates that an attack on one country will be considered “an aggression against both.”
Jaiswal underscored India’s own deepening strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia. “India and Saudi Arabia have a wide-ranging strategic partnership which has deepened considerably in the last several years,” he noted. “We expect that this strategic partnership will keep in mind mutual interests and sensitivities.” His remarks serve as a diplomatic reminder of the close ties between India and Saudi Arabia while acknowledging the new development in Riyadh’s relationship with Islamabad.
