India Strikes Back: Air Defence Radars in Pakistan Targeted After Drone, Missile Attacks

Following Pakistan’s attempted overnight assault on military targets in Northern and Western India, Indian forces responded with precise strikes on Pakistani air defence systems, including one in Lahore.

New Delhi, May 8: In a decisive counter-offensive, the Indian Armed Forces launched targeted strikes early this morning on Pakistani air defence systems, including radars in Lahore, in response to an overnight drone and missile attack launched by Pakistan on multiple Indian military installations.

According to a detailed statement released by the Ministry of Defence, Pakistan attempted to strike several locations across Northern and Western India—among them Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda, and Bhuj—using unmanned aerial vehicles and missile systems on the intervening night of May 7 and 8.

The attacks were intercepted and neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and advanced air defence mechanisms. Debris from the attempted strikes has been recovered, confirming Pakistan’s involvement, the statement noted.

In a retaliatory move, Indian forces launched precise strikes this morning on Pakistani air defence infrastructure. “Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan were targeted. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” the statement confirmed.

The Defence Ministry reiterated that India’s response mirrors the intensity and domain of the Pakistani aggression but remains within the bounds of restraint. During its earlier Operation Sindoor briefing, India had emphasized a non-escalatory stance and had deliberately avoided targeting Pakistani military establishments.

However, with Pakistan escalating hostilities, including heavy mortar and artillery fire along the Line of Control in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, and Rajouri sectors, India was “compelled to respond” to bring the firing to a halt.

Tragically, 16 Indian civilians—among them three women and five children—have lost their lives in the recent unprovoked shelling by Pakistan.

Despite the flare-up, India’s armed forces have reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, provided that Pakistan respects the same.

“Any attack on military targets in India will invite a suitable response,” the Defence Ministry concluded.
