Indian Cricket Fraternity Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Mourns Loss of Innocent Lives

New Delhi, April 23: The Indian cricket community came together in shock and solidarity on Tuesday, as news of the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir sent ripples of grief across the nation. Current and former players, including coaches and team management, took to social media to condemn the brutal violence and mourn the victims.
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shared his heartbreak on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Deeply saddened by the attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Praying for the victims and for the strength of their families. Let us stand united in hope and humanity.”
“This Pain Feels Too Close” – Irfan Pathan
Former cricketer Irfan Pathan, who has strong roots in Kashmir cricket development, shared a deeply emotional post:
“Every time an innocent life is lost, humanity loses. It’s heartbreaking to see and hear about what happened in Kashmir today. I was just there a couple of days ago — this pain feels too close.”
Legendary opener Virender Sehwag also voiced his anguish:
“Deeply pained to hear of the reprehensible terrorist attack on innocent tourists in #Pahalgam. My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured.”
Active Cricketers Join in Condemnation
India vice-captain Shubman Gill and senior batter KL Rahul were among the current players who extended support.
“Heartbreaking to hear about the terrorist attack in Kashmir. My thoughts are with the families of the victims. Praying for peace and strength,” said KL Rahul.
“My prayers are with the victims and their families. Violence like this has no place in our country,” echoed Shubman Gill.
Gautam Gambhir: “India Will Strike”
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, known for his fierce patriotism, issued a strong warning:
“Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
Government Mobilises, PM Modi Cuts Short Visit
In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his state visit to Saudi Arabia, landing in New Delhi early Wednesday to convene a high-level security briefing with EAM S. Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, and senior officials.
Home Minister Amit Shah, who reached Srinagar hours after the attack, chaired a detailed review meeting. He affirmed that “those involved in this dastardly act will not be spared.”
Meanwhile, Indian Army and J&K Police launched a search operation in Baisran, Pahalgam, to track down the terrorists. Delhi Police has been instructed to heighten vigilance across public locations.
