December 15, 2024: Harshita Brella, a 24-year-old Indian woman, who was tragically found dead in the boot of a car in London, had reportedly warned her family that her husband “would kill her.” The incident, which unfolded on November 14, has sparked outrage and calls for justice as the prime suspect, Pankaj Lamba, 23, remains on the run.

Born in Delhi, Harshita moved to the UK in April this year after marrying Lamba in August 2022. According to The BBC, investigators believe she was strangled days before her body was discovered.

In an emotional interview, Harshita’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, recalled a harrowing phone call weeks before her daughter’s death. “(Lamba) was making her life miserable,” she said. “She told me, ‘I will not go back to him. He will kill me.’”
Harshita’s father, Satbir Brella, shared similar heartbreak, saying, “I had no idea I would have to perform my daughter’s final rites. I used to dream she would perform mine.”
The family revealed disturbing details of Harshita’s troubled marriage, including alleged physical abuse. Harshita reportedly called her father on August 29, crying and recounting a violent attack in public. Police records show she reported domestic abuse in August, leading to Lamba’s arrest on September 3. However, he was released on conditional bail with a domestic violence protection order in place.
Authorities are now investigating whether Northamptonshire Police adequately responded to Harshita’s prior complaints. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has stepped in to assess the police’s role in her case. Meanwhile, an international manhunt for Lamba is underway, with her family claiming he has fled to India.
Tragically, Harshita also suffered a miscarriage weeks before her death, adding to the family’s grief.
As the investigation continues, Harshita’s family pleads for justice. “She was so innocent, so simple,” her mother said. “We just want her voice to be heard.”
