Indore Crowned Cleanest City of India for Eighth Consecutive Year

July 17, 2025: Indore has once again demonstrated its commitment to cleanliness, clinching the prestigious title of India’s cleanest city for the eighth year in a row. Surat followed closely behind, securing the second position in the latest rankings announced by the Central Government’s annual cleanliness survey, Swachh Survekshan 2024-25.

The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The Swachh Survekshan mission, now in its ninth year, continues to promote large-scale citizen participation and raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in urban areas.

This year, the survey evaluated more than 4,500 cities across the country using a comprehensive framework that measures sanitation, waste management, and service delivery through 10 parameters and 54 indicators. The government highlighted the adoption of a “smart, structured approach” to assessing urban cleanliness, emphasizing data-driven evaluations to enhance transparency and accountability.

The consistent top ranking of Indore stands as a testament to sustained efforts by local authorities and citizens alike to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Surat’s impressive second-place finish also reflects significant strides in sanitation and urban services.

The Swachh Survekshan initiative remains a flagship program under the Swachh Bharat Mission, aiming to transform India’s cities into cleaner, safer, and more sustainable places to live. With growing public participation and innovative strategies, the mission hopes to inspire all urban centers to improve their cleanliness standards in the years to come.
