INS Satpura & Savitri Dock in Yangon with Over 50 Tons of Aid Under ‘Operation Brahma’

India ramps up humanitarian relief to earthquake-hit Myanmar as death toll crosses 2,000; Indian Navy and Air Force lead first-responder efforts

Yangon [Myanmar], April 1: As Myanmar reels from the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake, India has stepped up its humanitarian outreach under ‘Operation Brahma’, with Indian Navy ships INS Satpura and INS Savitri arriving in Yangon carrying over 50 tons of relief material to aid those affected by the tragedy.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the arrival in a post on X, stating:
“#OperationBrahma @indiannavy ships INS Satpura & INS Savitri arrived in Yangon today with relief assistance.”

The Indian Embassy in Myanmar also shared that the High Commissioner Ambassador Abhay Thakur officially handed over the relief supplies, adding:
“50 T HADR relief material carried by INS Satpura & INS Savitri handed over by @AmbAbhayThakur today at Yangon.”

This large-scale humanitarian assistance follows earlier efforts by the Indian Air Force, which delivered 15 tons of essential supplies to Yangon on March 29. With a total of six IAF aircraft and five Indian Navy ships mobilized, India’s relief operations have reached key quake-hit zones including Yangon, Naypyitaw, and Mandalay.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Sagaing region, near Mandalay, and the tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok and parts of southern China. As per the latest reports, over 2,000 people have been confirmed dead, with widespread infrastructural damage and hundreds more still missing or injured.

Under ‘Operation Brahma’, India has deployed rescue teams, medical professionals, and emergency relief kits — including tents, blankets, food packets, hygiene kits, power generators, and medicines — to support Myanmar during this critical time.

India’s rapid mobilization reaffirms its role as the first responder in the region, echoing its longstanding policy of extending humanitarian support to neighbors in distress. The Indian government, through coordinated efforts by the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and Embassy in Myanmar, continues to monitor and respond to evolving ground realities.

With rescue efforts ongoing and the full impact of the quake yet to unfold, India’s swift and decisive support has been widely acknowledged as a crucial contribution to the region’s disaster response.
