Users in India are reporting widespread login errors and service disruptions for the popular AI chatbot and its related web services.
August 20, 2025: A lot of individuals in India can’t get to ChatGPT and other OpenAI services. Downdetector, a site that tracks outages, says that complaints of issues have been rolling in fast since the morning of August 20, 2025. A lot of individuals have not been able to get to the website, app, and platform, which means there is a significant problem.

Most of the complaints, 54%, are about the main ChatGPT service, according to Downdetector. 43% of the reports are regarding the OpenAI website, and 3% are from users who use the app on their phones.
Around 11:00 AM on August 20, there was a sharp spike in reports of problems. People stated they were having problems loading discussions, getting answers, and in some cases, the platform was totally down. Others have said they had trouble signing in to both the website and the app.
OpenAI has acknowledged the issue on its official status page. It says that there is a “higher error rate” that is affecting services on the web, mobile apps, and its API. The company says it has taken steps to repair the problem and is watching the recovery, but consumers are still having trouble with the service.
