March 8, 2025: Koppal, Karnataka: Israeli Tourist Gang-Raped in Karnataka; Co-Traveler Drowns in Canal During Attack
In a shocking incident in Koppal, Karnataka, two women, including a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a homestay owner, were gang-raped by three men on Thursday night. The horrific attack took place while the victims were stargazing near a canal with three other travelers.
Before assaulting the women, the attackers pushed three men into the canal. While two managed to escape, the third, identified as Bibash from Odisha, drowned. His body was recovered on Saturday morning.

The survivors recounted that after dinner, they went to the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal to enjoy the night sky. Around this time, three men on a motorcycle approached them under the pretext of asking for petrol.
The situation quickly escalated when the men demanded ₹100 from the group. When the travelers refused, the attackers turned violent, assaulting them and forcibly pushing the three male travelers into the canal.
With the men out of the way, the assailants brutally raped the two women before fleeing the scene.

Following the survivors’ complaints, the police immediately launched an investigation and deployed two special teams to track the suspects.
“Five people—two women and three men—were attacked near Sanapur. The Israeli tourist stated in her complaint that the two women were not only beaten but also sexually assaulted,” said Ram L. Arasiddi, Superintendent of Police, Koppal.
The fire department and police’s dog squad were also deployed to locate the missing traveler, Bibash, whose body was found on Saturday morning.
The two women are receiving treatment at a government hospital, though they have the option to be shifted to a private hospital if they choose.
A police case has been filed under sections related to gang rape, sexual assault, and robbery, and authorities have assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
“The women have undergone medical examinations, and we are working swiftly to identify and arrest the culprits,” Superintendent Arasiddi confirmed.
This disturbing crime has once again raised concerns over tourist safety in India, particularly for solo and international travelers. Authorities are now facing pressure to ensure swift justice and implement stronger security measures in tourist hotspots.
With the hunt for the attackers still underway, police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation.
