Vijay starrer postponed days before release amid certification dispute
January 8, 2026: The release of Jana Nayagan starring actor Vijay has been postponed just two days before its scheduled January 9 release. Producers KVN Productions said the decision was taken due to circumstances beyond their control. The film was widely promoted as Vijay’s final project before his full time political entry.
The delay is linked to an unresolved certification dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification. The issue is currently before the Madras High Court which has reserved its order. The filmmakers have argued that all cuts and modifications suggested by the examining committee were implemented raising questions over renewed scrutiny.
The postponement has affected domestic and overseas releases with distributors in the UK North America and Malaysia confirming delays. Theatre shows have been cancelled and refunds initiated. Directed by H Vinoth the film features Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol among others as fans await a new release date.
