Aditi had been preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for two years at Momentum Coaching Center in Gorakhpur. She lived in Satyadeep Girls Hostel, where she shared a room with another student.
According to reports, she spoke to her parents on Wednesday morning after checking her JEE results, expressing disappointment. She even asked her father to recharge her mobile phone, giving no indication of her devastating decision.
Later that day, while Aditi’s roommate was out, she took her own life. When the roommate returned and found the door locked, she peeked inside and saw Aditi hanging from a noose made from a stole. She immediately informed the hostel warden, who then contacted the police.
The police recovered a heart-wrenching suicide note from Aditi’s room, which read:
“Sorry Mummy, Papa, forgive me… I couldn’t do it. This is the end of our relationship… you guys don’t cry… you gave me a lot of love. I couldn’t fulfill your dreams… Please take care of Choti, she will definitely fulfill your dreams. Your beloved daughter, Aditi.”
Aditi’s family, from Mishraulia village in Sant Kabir Nagar district, has been informed of the tragedy. Her body has been sent for postmortem, and further investigations are underway.
Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinav Tyagi stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem, but preliminary findings suggest extreme distress over her academic performance.
Aditi’s tragic demise highlights the immense mental and emotional burden placed on students preparing for competitive exams like JEE. Experts and counselors emphasize the need for greater mental health support, parental reassurance, and alternative career guidance to prevent such devastating incidents.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, seek professional help and talk to family and friends. No exam is worth a life.
