Journalist Allegedly Attacked During DU Protest
ABVP, AISA trade charges after clash at Arts Faculty campus
February 14, 2026: Tensions erupted at Delhi University on Friday after a woman journalist was allegedly assaulted while covering a pro-UGC protest at the Arts Faculty campus. The incident, reported around 2 PM, quickly escalated into a political confrontation between rival student groups, with videos from the scene circulating widely on social media. The journalist, associated with a YouTube channel, was present to report on the demonstration when a clash broke out between opposing factions.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) blamed Left-affiliated groups for the alleged misconduct, claiming the journalist was targeted after asking questions during the protest. ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma alleged that members of Left student organisations misbehaved with the reporter and said a police complaint had been filed. In response, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) accused ABVP workers of attacking their activists during the protest, which they said was organised in support of UGC regulations aimed at curbing caste discrimination on campuses. AISA further alleged police inaction and claimed their members faced intimidation outside the police station.
Police officials confirmed that a dispute between two student groups was reported and that a complaint has been registered. According to authorities, one individual approached the police alleging assault and underwent medical examination. Officials stated that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
