K C Venugopal questions Pinarayi Vijayan over key issues ahead of April 9 elections
April 7, 2026: On the final day of campaigning ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections, Congress leader K C Venugopal released an open letter addressed to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, raising a series of allegations about the LDF government’s functioning. He said several questions remain unanswered regarding Vijayan’s decade-long tenure and sought clarity on what he termed the most debated issues in the state.
Venugopal alleged that the Chief Minister had engaged in “secret deals” with BJP leaders and the Centre, citing meetings with Union ministers such as Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Nitin Gadkari. He questioned the purpose of these interactions and raised concerns over policy decisions, including the briefly implemented PM SHRI scheme and labour code rules, suggesting they may have been influenced by political understandings.
The Congress leader also referred to several controversies, including the SNC-Lavalin case, Exalogic case, Kodakara hawala case, and gold and dollar smuggling allegations, seeking updates on their status. He further questioned the continued support for senior police officer M R Ajith Kumar amid alleged links with RSS leaders. With no immediate response from the Chief Minister’s Office or CPI(M), the letter has intensified the political debate in Kerala just hours before campaigning ends.
