January 11, 2025: Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh: A tragic incident unfolded on Friday when an under-construction two-storey building at Kannauj railway station collapsed, trapping dozens of workers under the debris. The structure was part of an ongoing beautification project at the station.
Approximately 35 workers were present on-site when the collapse occurred. Rescue teams comprising railway, police, and administrative officials have managed to save 23 workers so far.

Cause of Collapse
According to District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukla, the accident happened due to the collapse of the under-construction shuttering of the roof. "Our immediate priority is to rescue the remaining workers trapped under the debris. All available resources are being used to expedite the rescue operations," he said.

Compensation and Relief Measures
The Uttar Pradesh state government has announced compensation for the victims, with ₹50,000 allocated to those seriously injured and ₹5,000 for those with minor injuries. Northeastern Railway officials confirmed that relief and rescue operations are ongoing on a war footing.
The State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) has been deployed from Lucknow to assist in the rescue efforts.
Current Status
As rescue operations continue, authorities remain focused on saving as many lives as possible while investigating the cause of the structural failure.
