April 29, 2025: New Delhi:Kashmir on High Alert: Four Counter-Terror Operations Underway After Pahalgam Attack

Four major counter-terrorism operations are currently underway across Kashmir today, officials confirmed, as security forces intensify efforts to neutralize threats following the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam last week that left 26 people dead.

According to army sources, two of the operations are continuations of earlier encounters, while two others have been freshly launched. Key among them is a major joint operation in the Yarwan forest area of Shopian district, South Kashmir — a region now under heightened security surveillance.

Units of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police are jointly spearheading the crackdown. Sources indicate that multiple counter-terror activities have been ramped up, particularly across the southern districts of Shopian and Pulwama, where densely forested and rural areas are being combed thoroughly.

In a broader security move, authorities have closed nearly 50 public parks and gardens deemed vulnerable. Of the 87 public parks identified as sensitive, 48 have been locked down to restrict public access. Tourist destinations such as Dooshpathri, Kokernag, Duksum, Sinthan Top, Acchabal, Bangus Valley, Margan Top, and Tosamaidan — all part of alternative tourism circuits promoted in recent years — have also been shut.

The sweeping restrictions come exactly a week after terrorists opened fire on tourists at the Baisaran meadows near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Anantnag district, killing 26 and injuring dozens. Most victims were visitors who had arrived to enjoy Kashmir’s spring season, traditionally considered a safer time for tourism.

Following the Pahalgam attack, security forces have come under immense pressure to swiftly dismantle terrorist networks believed to be operating in the region. Today’s multiple ongoing operations represent a major escalation in that effort.
