KCR Reaches Hyderabad Home Ahead of SIT Questioning
Security tightened as BRS chief faces probe in phone-tapping case amid protest calls
February 1, 2026: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao reached his residence in Hyderabad on Sunday ahead of his scheduled examination by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the alleged telephone-tapping case. The SIT is set to question him at 3 pm at his Nandi Nagar residence in Banjara Hills, with police stepping up security and erecting barricades to prevent gatherings. Only family members have been allowed entry into the premises.
Security was tightened following plans by BRS leaders and workers to assemble in support of KCR, alleging political vendetta by the ruling Congress government. Anticipating protests such as dharnas, rallies and road blockades across Telangana, the Director General of Police directed senior officers to take precautionary measures to maintain law and order, especially in view of the ongoing municipal elections.
KCR, who had earlier sought postponement and requested questioning at his Erravalli residence in Siddipet district, agreed to appear in Hyderabad after the SIT rejected his plea. While asserting that the notice served to him would not stand legal scrutiny and questioning the jurisdiction of the issuing officer, he said he would cooperate as a responsible citizen. KCR is the most senior BRS leader to be questioned in the case, which pertains to the alleged tapping of phones of politicians, officials, journalists and others during the previous BRS government.
