
Landslide Alert Issued for Four Uttarakhand Districts as Heavy Rain Batters Hills
July-7, 2025: Dehradun – The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has issued a high-alert landslide warning for four districts in Uttarakhand — Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli — in light of the heavy rainfall forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Geological Survey of India (GSI). The warning covers the period of July 7 and 8 and has prompted widespread emergency preparedness across hill regions.

According to officials, the alert specifically applies to subdivisions including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Ukhimath, Ghansali, Narendra Nagar, Dhanaulti, Dunda, and Chinyalisaur, where steep terrain, intense downpours, and saturated soil pose significant risks of slope failures and road blockages.
In response, the SEOC has activated emergency protocols across the state. All district magistrates and disaster management authorities have been ordered to:
Officials including revenue inspectors, gram panchayat members, and village development officers have been directed to remain stationed in their areas. The SEOC has also mandated that no government officer may switch off their mobile phone during this critical period.

The district information officers have been tasked with spreading the alert widely through print and electronic media, urging residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated through official channels. Signage and heavy-duty machinery like excavators and earthmovers have been deployed at known landslide-prone stretches to aid swift rescue and clearance operations if required.
The IMD continues to monitor weather activity and has warned of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall across the Himalayan foothills, raising concerns about flash floods and further landslides in already vulnerable areas.
Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak rain periods, follow local administration advisories, and report any emergencies to the State Control Room via designated helplines.
