Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries to now pay ₹553 per cylinder in Delhi; general users to pay ₹853. Excise duties on petrol, diesel also increased—but won’t affect retail prices for now.
LPG Cylinder Price Increased by ₹50 for All Users, Says Oil Minister Hardeep Puri
New Delhi | April 7, 2025 — In a move that will impact households across India, the government has announced a ₹50 increase in the price of cooking gas (LPG) cylinders for both subsidised and general category users, effective immediately.
Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri confirmed the hike on Monday, stating that this revision was necessary given the volatility in global energy prices.
For residents of Delhi, this means:
- Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries will now pay ₹553 per 14.2 kg cylinder (up from ₹503)
- General consumers will be charged ₹853 per cylinder
💬 “The LPG rate revision is a balanced step considering international benchmarks,” said Puri.
This is the first revision since March 2024, when the price had been reduced by ₹100.
Recent LPG Price Movements
- Commercial LPG cylinders were recently slashed by ₹41, offering relief to hotels, restaurants, and small businesses.
- Despite the domestic LPG hike, officials said efforts are being made to keep consumer prices in check.
Petrol and Diesel Duty Hiked Too
In a parallel move, the excise duty on:
- Petrol has been increased to ₹13 per litre
- Diesel to ₹10 per litre
However, retail prices at fuel stations will remain unchanged, as this hike will be absorbed by oil marketing companies. Officials stated the increase would be offset by the recent dip in global crude oil prices, and the new rates will take effect from April 8.
