Fresh shipments arrive as supply crunch begins to ease

March 22, 2026: Amid disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict, India has been grappling with an LPG shortage. However, relief has begun to arrive as the LPG carrier Pyxis Pioneer docked at New Mangalore Port on Sunday, bringing 16,714 tonnes of cooking gas. The vessel, which sailed from the Netherlands, is unloading cargo for Aegis Logistics Limited. Over the coming week, nearly 72,700 tonnes of LPG are expected to reach the port, raising hopes of easing supply constraints.

More shipments are lined up, including the Apollo Ocean, which is scheduled to arrive on March 25 carrying 26,687 tonnes of LPG for Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. The tanker is expected to arrive from Vadinar, Gujarat, after an earlier shipment was rerouted. These incoming supplies are part of coordinated efforts to stabilise fuel availability amid ongoing global disruptions.

Further relief is expected with a US-bound tanker set to arrive on March 29 carrying around 30,000 tonnes of LPG for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. The Mangaluru plant plays a key role in distributing gas to bottling units and cities like Bengaluru. With multiple consignments on the way, LPG availability across India is likely to improve significantly in the coming days.
