M.K. Stalin Defends Women’s Aid Scheme, Promises Hike

Tamil Nadu CM says Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai is a right, not a dole

February 13, 2026: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, asserting that the monthly financial assistance for women is a rightful entitlement rather than a welfare dole. In an official statement, he said no political or administrative hurdles would be allowed to delay or dilute the support, accusing certain quarters of attempting to suspend payments for three months citing upcoming elections. He described such moves as efforts to disrupt a flagship social justice initiative benefiting lakhs of families.

In a proactive measure, the state government released ₹5,000 each to 1.31 crore women beneficiaries. The sum includes ₹3,000 as advance payment for February, March and April, along with ₹2,000 as a special summer assistance package. The funds were directly credited to bank accounts to ensure uninterrupted support. Officials said the scheme has significantly aided low and middle-income families in managing household expenses, children’s education and healthcare needs.

Looking ahead to the elections, Stalin announced that under the proposed “Dravidian Model 2.0,” the monthly assistance of ₹1,000 would be doubled to ₹2,000 if his government is re-elected. Calling it a “promise to my sisters,” he linked the scheme to the legacy of late leader M. Karunanidhi and expressed confidence that women voters would back the DMK-led government once again.
