CM Yogi Adityanath highlights Maha Kumbh’s economic impact, stating a boatman's family made ₹30 crore profit, while the mega event contributed ₹3 lakh crore to India’s economy.
March 5, 2025: Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath defended the Maha Kumbh 2025 against opposition criticism, citing its immense economic impact on local businesses. Addressing the state assembly during the discussion on the 2025-26 budget, which was passed on Tuesday, CM Adityanath shared a striking success story—a boatman’s family with 130 boats earned ₹30 crore in just 45 days.

Dismissing opposition claims of "exploitation" of boatmen, CM Yogi explained the financial windfall for local businesses.
"One family operating 130 boats earned ₹30 crore, meaning each boat brought in an average of ₹23 lakh. On a daily basis, they earned between ₹50,000-52,000 per boat," he stated.

The Maha Kumbh 2025, held in Prayagraj, witnessed an unprecedented 66 crore devotees and tourists over 45 days, making it one of the biggest religious gatherings in history. CM Adityanath praised the law and order management, stating:
"Not a single case of harassment, kidnapping, robbery, or murder was reported. People came, participated, and left safely."
Economic Impact of Maha Kumbh 2025
Highlighting the economic surge triggered by the Kumbh Mela, CM Yogi revealed that an investment of ₹7,500 crore resulted in a record ₹3 lakh crore business turnover, benefiting multiple industries:
- ₹40,000 crore in the hotel industry
- ₹33,000 crore in food and daily essentials
- ₹1.5 lakh crore in transportation
- ₹20,000 crore in religious offerings
- ₹660 crore in donations
- ₹300 crore in toll tax
- ₹66,000 crore in additional revenue
According to him, Maha Kumbh 2025 contributed significantly to India's projected GDP growth of 6.5%.
Major Infrastructure Development
CM Yogi emphasized that the ₹7,500 crore expenditure was not just for the festival but for Prayagraj’s long-term development. Major projects included:
- 200 roads widened
- 14 flyovers and 9 underpasses constructed
- 12 corridors developed for smoother city traffic
He also mentioned the installation of a statue of Lord Ram embracing Nishad Raj in Shringverpur, reclaiming the site from encroachment.
"For you (opposition), this was just a vote bank. For us, this is our heritage," CM Yogi remarked.
Global Recognition for Maha Kumbh
CM Adityanath also pointed out that leading international media houses praised the flawless execution of the Maha Kumbh 2025, countering opposition allegations of mismanagement.
Concluding his speech, CM Yogi asserted:
"The success of Maha Kumbh proves that people have rejected the opposition’s claims. Their countdown has begun because the public is no longer listening to them."
With a record-breaking spiritual, economic, and infrastructural impact, Maha Kumbh 2025 has set a new benchmark in religious tourism and urban development.
