Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), December 24: The Mahakumbh Mela 2025, one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, is set to commence on January 13, 2025, in the ancient city of Prayagraj. Anticipating a massive footfall of over 45 crore pilgrims, the event promises a blend of tradition, technology, and security to ensure a seamless experience for devotees.
AI-Powered Assistance for Pilgrims
In an innovative move, an AI-powered chatbot integrated with the Bhasini App will assist visitors in multiple languages. This chatbot is designed to provide real-time guidance, including directions to food courts, tents, hospitals, police stations, and the lost-and-found counters.

“Using this application, visitors will be able to Google navigate to nearest facilities. It is a self-regulatory mechanism, fully digitised for ease of access,” said Vivek Chaturvedi, Additional Mela Adhikari.
The Bhasini App integration ensures effective communication, allowing visitors from diverse regions to interact in their native languages, enhancing clarity and efficiency in managing large crowds.
Enhanced Security and Infrastructure
- Around 2,700 AI-enabled surveillance cameras will monitor crowd movements and ensure safety.
- A dedicated call centre has been established to assist pilgrims with any queries.
- Separate wards for men and women are being set up, with a focus on ensuring comfort and safety amidst the expected cold weather.
Cultural Showcases Across the City
The Uttar Pradesh Culture Department will host 20 cultural stages at key locations throughout Prayagraj. These stages will feature folk dance performances and traditional art forms from various Indian states, offering visitors a vibrant cultural experience during the 45-day-long festival.
Key Bathing Dates for Pilgrims
The Shahi Snan (Royal Bath) remains the most sacred ritual of the Mahakumbh Mela. The main bathing dates include:
- January 14: Makar Sankranti
- January 29: Mauni Amavasya
- February 3: Basant Panchami
These dates are expected to witness unprecedented crowds, with pilgrims and sadhus gathering for spiritual cleansing at the Triveni Sangam.
Chief Minister’s Inspection and Instructions
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently inspected the under-construction tent city and reviewed the ongoing preparations. He emphasized:
- Timely arrangements for food, accommodation, and medical assistance.
- Strict implementation of shift duties for personnel.
- Minimizing ambulance response times during emergencies.
