Mahakumbh 2025 to Generate ₹2 Lakh Crore in Trade: CAIT

World's largest religious gathering expected to boost local economy, create significant opportunities for trade, tourism, and employment.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 13: The ongoing Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is projected to generate a staggering ₹2 lakh crore in trade, as per estimates by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The world’s largest human gathering, expected to attract over 400 million visitors, is set to provide a monumental boost to the local economy through trade, tourism, and employment.

Key Contributors to Economic Activity

According to Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of CAIT, the event is a hub of economic and trade activities, with an average expenditure of ₹5,000 per visitor. He highlighted the major contributors:

  • Accommodation & Tourism: Hotels, guesthouses, and temporary lodging arrangements are expected to generate ₹40,000 crore.
  • Food & Beverages: Packaged foods, water, juices, and meals will contribute around ₹20,000 crore.
  • Religious Items: Offerings such as oil lamps, incense sticks, idols, and Ganga water will add another ₹20,000 crore.
  • Transportation & Logistics: Local and interstate services, freight, and taxis are projected to account for ₹10,000 crore.
  • Tourism Services: Tour guides, travel packages, and related activities will bring in ₹10,000 crore.
  • Healthcare & Wellness: Medical camps and Ayurvedic products are estimated to generate ₹3,000 crore.

Technology and Entertainment Sectors

The festival is also expected to drive technological and entertainment services:

  • Digital Economy: E-ticketing, digital payments, Wi-Fi services, and charging stations are projected to contribute ₹1,000 crore.
  • Media & Advertising: Promotional activities are anticipated to generate ₹10,000 crore.

State Government's Vision

The Uttar Pradesh government has positioned Mahakumbh 2025 as a cornerstone for boosting regional and global tourism. The event is expected to create substantial opportunities for local industries, fostering economic growth in both the state and the nation.
