BJP attacks Mamata Banerjee for questioning Mahakumbh’s timing, alleges political appeasement
Asansol (West Bengal), February 26: BJP leader Agnimitra Paul launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, questioning her understanding of religious history after her recent remarks on the Mahakumbh. Paul accused Banerjee of misleading the public for political appeasement, claiming that her statements reveal a lack of basic education despite holding a Master’s degree in Religious History.
“Our Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, as we have heard, has a Master’s degree in Religious History. But perhaps the education system was lacking when she studied, because she didn’t study properly. What she is saying now shows a lack of basic education,” said Paul.
Mamata’s Controversial Remarks on Mahakumbh
Banerjee recently challenged the claim that the Mahakumbh occurs once every 144 years, asserting that holy dips happen every year and comparing it to West Bengal’s Gangasagar Mela.
“After 144 years, Mahakumbh will come. This is not right. If I’m wrong, correct me. As per my knowledge, the punya snan (holy dip) system comes every year. Actually, we organise the Gangasagar Mela. That’s why I know about the holy dip,” Banerjee stated.
Her comments sparked outrage among BJP leaders, who accused her of distorting facts to mislead people.
BJP Leaders Criticize Banerjee on Law & Order, Border Voter Surge
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh also slammed Banerjee over West Bengal’s law and order situation, particularly in light of the recent recovery of bombs in Amdanga. He alleged that criminal activities are flourishing due to police inaction.
“There are no restrictions, no police action. Criminals operate openly, conducting illegal activities with political backing, while the people of Bengal suffer,” Ghosh said.
He further raised concerns about the sudden rise in voter turnout in Bengal’s border areas, suggesting that illegal immigrants were being granted voter IDs and ration cards to manipulate elections.
“Mamata Banerjee’s party, just like in Delhi, is inflating voter numbers. The number of voters at the border has doubled, but where do these people come from? They get voter cards, ration cards, and are spreading unrest across the country,” he alleged.
BJP Questions Mamata’s Role in Bengal’s Economic Decline
Ghosh also criticized the deteriorating condition of Bengal’s tea industry, contrasting it with Assam’s thriving tea sector.
“The tea industry in Bengal is in a terrible state, while Assam’s is flourishing. The BJP is working to uplift laborers there, but Mamata’s government only plays politics,” he said.
He praised the rapid development in the North-East under BJP rule, highlighting infrastructural advancements.
“The North-East has witnessed unparalleled progress in the last ten years—high-speed expressways, new bridges, and full integration with the rest of India,” he stated.
CAG Report: BJP Alleges Massive Corruption in Delhi
Bringing up the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, Ghosh alleged large-scale corruption by the previous Delhi government, suggesting that more arrests will follow.
“The most corrupt and dishonest government was in Delhi, but their wrongdoings are being exposed. Thousands of crores were looted, and those responsible—whether in jail or not—will eventually face justice,” Ghosh claimed.
