Manoj Tiwari Says Delhi Will ‘Forget Waterlogging’ After This Monsoon, Slams AAP for Past Neglect

BJP MP claims current administration is actively working on the ground to address Delhi’s flooding woes, blames AAP for 12 years of inaction amid political spat over monsoon chaos.

New Delhi [India], May 2: Amid heavy rainfall that triggered widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across Delhi on Friday, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari assured citizens that the situation would soon improve, declaring that after this monsoon, “people of Delhi will forget what waterlogging is.”

Tiwari highlighted the BJP’s proactive efforts, contrasting it with what he called the AAP’s past “indifference” to civic issues during their rule. “Every leader, including the Chief Minister, is on the ground, unlike their [AAP] leader who used to stay indoors,” Tiwari said, reinforcing the BJP’s commitment to on-the-ground governance.

The capital was hit by an early morning downpour that led to flooding in multiple areas and delays in flight operations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts across Delhi-NCR, urging residents to take precautions amid severe weather conditions.

Responding to criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party over the waterlogging, Tiwari retorted, “Those who pushed Delhi back 20 years during their 11-year rule are now asking questions just two months into BJP’s administration.”

Tiwari added that the administration had already warned about possible waterlogging this year but asserted the situation is being handled better than in previous years. “We have been saying it since Day 1. Yes, there will be waterlogging, but the severity will be less.”

Earlier in the day, Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma visited waterlogged zones, including the notorious Minto Bridge area. In a video posted to X, Verma showcased the use of four pumps working to clear stagnant water, emphasizing rapid response efforts.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders Kuljeet Singh Chahal and Ravindra Singh Negi criticized AAP’s alleged neglect of Delhi’s drainage systems over the past decade. They praised CM Rekha and Minister Verma’s 65-day-old administration for initiating major drain cleaning operations.

However, the Aam Aadmi Party fired back, accusing the BJP-led administration of failing to act despite knowing about the monsoon threat. Posting a video of Verma on X, AAP mocked the BJP minister, stating that “with just a little rain, water is overflowing from drains and flooding roads,” highlighting that no real work had been done in advance.
