Akhilesh targets BJP, Yogi orders crackdown
March 21, 2026: The killing of cow protector Chandrashekhar in Mathura has sparked a major political controversy, raising concerns over law and order. Akhilesh Yadav criticised the government, calling the incident a failure of governance and alleging rising fear under BJP rule. He questioned how such violence could occur in religious hubs like Mathura and Vrindavan, accusing the ruling party of fuelling tensions.
In response, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took strict note of the situation and directed officials to ensure tough action against those responsible. Authorities have launched extensive search operations in nearby areas, detaining around two dozen suspects linked to the unrest and incidents of stone-pelting.
Meanwhile, preparations for the victim’s last rites are underway, and a post-mortem is expected to determine the exact cause of death. Officials say the situation is now largely under control, with traffic restored and security tightened, though tension continues to linger in certain pockets.
