Meerut Murder Twist: Accused Sahil Used Victim’s Money to Bet on IPL Matches, Say Police Sources
March 24, 2025: Meerut Murder Case: Accused Sahil Used Saurabh Rajput’s Money to Fund Gambling, Say Police Sources
In a shocking revelation in the Saurabh Rajput murder case, police sources have disclosed that Sahil Shukla — the main accused alongside Saurabh’s wife Muskan Rastogi — used the victim’s money to gamble on IPL cricket matches. Sahil reportedly placed bets through local bookies, whose identities are now under investigation.
Officials said Muskan regularly informed Sahil when her husband transferred money into her account. Sahil then used those funds to bet on cricket matches, including IPL games, and splurged the winnings on vacations to Rishikesh and Dehradun with Muskan. Neighbours noted that Sahil had no stable job and led a lavish lifestyle fueled by gambling.
According to Meerut SP (City) Ayush Vikram Singh, Saurabh, who worked in London with the Merchant Navy, routinely sent around ₹1 lakh a month to Muskan for their daughter’s expenses. Police say this money was misused in the days leading up to the gruesome murder.

Investigations reveal that Muskan and Sahil began planning the murder as early as November last year. On March 4, they executed the plan — drugging Saurabh, stabbing him in the heart thrice, and later dismembering his body. The remains were stuffed into a drum and sealed with cement.

The murder came to light after Muskan reportedly confessed to her mother, who then alerted authorities. Both Muskan and Sahil were arrested. Post-mortem reports confirmed the brutal nature of the killing, with deep stab wounds and dismemberment done to fit the body into a drum.
Saurabh’s mother, Renu Devi, has now appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath for a thorough probe and justice. “My son was brutally murdered, and we have not seen our granddaughter since. I want the culprits to get the death penalty,” she said.
She also expressed fears for the child’s safety and demanded custody of her granddaughter, stating, “If Muskan could murder her husband, she’s capable of anything.”
Interestingly, even Muskan’s parents have denounced her actions and demanded capital punishment. Her father, who took her to the police station after learning the truth, stated, “She confessed everything. I don’t want anything less than the death penalty for her.”
So far, police have identified nine others linked to the case — including shopkeepers, a doctor, a chemist, and a cab driver. Seven of them have already been questioned. Sahil’s gambling activities are now under a deeper probe and expected to be part of his formal remand.
As the investigation widens, the brutal murder case continues to shock the nation — now revealing a disturbing mix of betrayal, greed, and a misuse of trust.
