Meerut Murder:"He Is Destined to Die": The Chilling Snapchat Messages That Sparked the Murder
March 24, 2025: In a murder case that continues to shock the nation, investigators probing the brutal killing of Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput have uncovered a disturbing digital trail—Snapchat chats that point to careful planning, manipulation, and a chilling psychological grip.
According to sources, the prime accused, Muskaan Rastogi, operated three Snapchat accounts—one in her own name, and two under the names of her mother and brother. These accounts were used to manipulate her lover, Sahil Shukla, into believing that murdering her husband was not only justified but preordained.
The chats—now in police possession—include spine-chilling messages. In one, Muskaan, posing as Sahil’s deceased mother, allegedly wrote: “He is destined to die at Muskaan’s hands.” In others, she referred to herself as “bahu” (daughter-in-law) and claimed she was now “part of the family,” assuring Sahil of “Shakti” (spiritual power) protecting him.
Police say Sahil, already influenced by drug use and a belief in the occult, was convinced that his mother’s spirit was communicating with him through Muskaan. She further used the fake accounts to simulate support from her own family, convincing Sahil that her parents and brother approved of their relationship and his involvement.
“The entire plot was crafted by Muskaan. She created this network of deceit using Snapchat, exploiting Sahil’s vulnerabilities and superstitions to gain complete control,” said SP (Meerut City) Ayush Vikram Singh.
Muskaan and Saurabh were married in 2016 and had a six-year-old daughter. The couple’s relationship had strained over the years, especially after Muskaan rekindled ties with Sahil—an old schoolmate—during a reunion in 2019. Their bond quickly spiraled into a drug-fueled affair.

Saurabh, who had taken up a job in London in 2023, returned to Meerut in March 2025 to celebrate their daughter’s birthday. He never returned. On the night of March 3, Muskaan drugged him, after which Sahil stabbed him to death. The duo then chopped the body into 15 pieces, sealed it in a cement-filled drum, and left for a vacation in Himachal Pradesh.
The plan was to dispose of the drum after their return. But when Muskaan hired labourers to move the container, the lid came off due to its weight—and a nauseating stench filled the air. Alarmed, the workers fled.
Panicked, Muskaan confessed to her parents, who immediately took her to the police. Sahil was arrested soon after.
The murder, police say, wasn’t just a crime of passion. It was a meticulously designed manipulation, where Snapchat became a weapon, superstition a tool, and love a means to an end. Investigators believe Muskaan not only exploited Sahil’s emotional fragility but also used technology and spiritual delusions to orchestrate a killing with chilling precision.
