Over 20 injured as clash erupts at Kakatiya University hostel in Warangal
February 24, 2026: More than 20 students were injured after a dispute over lunch portions escalated into violence at a hostel of Kakatiya University in Warangal on Sunday. The clash broke out around 1 PM inside the hostel mess when an argument over the distribution of leftover chicken spiralled out of control. What began as a verbal disagreement between first-year MBA and Economics students quickly intensified into a physical altercation, exposing simmering tensions between the two groups.
Eyewitnesses said tempers flared within minutes, with students allegedly using sticks and even coins found nearby during the scuffle. Mess workers and other hostel residents attempted to intervene, but the situation reportedly escalated beyond control. While officials have not confirmed the exact nature of the injuries, unverified reports suggest that several students sustained serious harm, including possible fractures.
Police later reached the campus and began questioning students involved in the incident. No arrests have been reported so far, but authorities are examining the circumstances closely. The university administration has reiterated strict hostel rules and warned that indiscipline will invite serious consequences once the inquiry concludes. The episode has also raised concerns about hostel supervision and whether earlier tensions between student groups were overlooked.
