Millions Take Holy Dip on Basant Panchami at Maha Kumbh 2025

Over 350 Million Devotees Have Participated in the Holy Snan So Far; Count Expected to Exceed 500 Million

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), February 3: In a grand display of devotion and faith, more than 12.5 million devotees took a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam on Basant Panchami, marking the third and final Shahi Snan of Maha Kumbh 2025.

By 8 AM on Monday, a historic milestone was reached as 6.2 million pilgrims had already taken a dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The total number of devotees who have participated in the sacred bathing rituals since the beginning of Maha Kumbh has now crossed 350 million (35 crores), with expectations of surpassing 500 million before the festival concludes.

To honor the occasion, helicopters showered flower petals on the devotees, creating a divine atmosphere at the world’s largest religious gathering.

UP Government Ensures Smooth Arrangements

Speaking to the media, Uttar Pradesh Minister AK Sharma stated that the state government has been continuously monitoring the arrangements to ensure the safety and comfort of the devotees.

“On the occasion of Basant Panchami, close to 4 crore people have taken a dip here since yesterday. We are ensuring proper crowd management, cleanliness, and traffic control. I have been inspecting the arrangements personally since Mauni Amavasya,” Sharma said.

He also emphasized that this Maha Kumbh represents “modern India and digital India,” with enhanced facilities and real-time crowd monitoring.

A Spiritual Spectacle: Record-Breaking Devotee Participation

The overwhelming turnout at Maha Kumbh 2025 has reaffirmed its spiritual significance, drawing millions from across India and the world. With 23 days remaining, the total number of devotees is expected to break previous records.

Here’s a breakdown of the highest turnouts so far:

  • Mauni Amavasya (January 29): 80 million devotees
  • Makar Sankranti (January 15): 35 million
  • Paush Purnima (January 25): 17 million
  • January 30 & February 1: Over 20 million

On February 2, 12 million devotees took part in the sacred Snan, further increasing the total count.

Grand Processions and Shahi Snan by Akharas and Saints

Monday’s Shahi Snan witnessed processions of Akharas, saints, and Naga Sadhus, adding to the spiritual grandeur of the event. The sight of saffron-clad ascetics, chanting holy hymns, and marching towards the Sangam with divine enthusiasm captivated devotees and onlookers.

Several political leaders and dignitaries have also taken a dip at the Sangam, including:

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

Maha Kumbh 2025: The Largest Spiritual Gathering on Earth

The Maha Kumbh 2025 commenced on January 13 and will continue until February 26. With millions of devotees arriving daily, the festival is set to break all previous records in terms of attendance and global participation.

As the holy event progresses, the unwavering faith of millions highlights the eternal spiritual essence of the Kumbh Mela, reinforcing its place as one of the most significant religious gatherings in history.
