Actor-turned-politician sharpens attack as West Bengal election campaign intensifies
April 3, 2026: Mithun Chakraborty has intensified his political outreach ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections, launching sharp attacks on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress. Speaking at a public event, he asserted that he would stand firm for the state, declaring that no one could “turn West Bengal into Bangladesh,” underscoring his strong stance on regional and national issues.
Chakraborty also targeted the TMC over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that BJP supporters too faced deletions. In a notable remark, he praised Asaduddin Owaisi, calling him a “real leader,” while maintaining that the Bharatiya Janata Party is not against any community but opposes elements acting against the country. He also raised concerns about governance, financial allocations, and law and order in the state.
Highlighting the party’s election strategy, Chakraborty backed BJP’s decision to field local candidates, saying grassroots representation would strengthen its chances. He also echoed concerns flagged by Amit Shah on illegal infiltration, calling it a major issue impacting jobs and welfare access. Expressing confidence, he said the BJP is well-positioned for victory in the upcoming polls.
