PM links BJP’s civic win to political change in Kerala

January 23, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday promised a probe into the alleged Sabarimala Temple gold loss case if the BJP comes to power in Kerala, calling it “Modi ki guarantee”. Addressing a massive rally in Thiruvananthapuram, Modi accused the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of undermining the shrine’s age-old traditions and asserted that those responsible would be held accountable. He said the recent BJP victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation signalled that political change in Kerala was inevitable.

Drawing parallels with Gujarat, the Prime Minister said the BJP’s rise there began four decades ago with a single civic win and followed a similar trajectory. “In 1987, BJP won the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation for the first time, and that became the foundation of our journey in Gujarat. Today, in Kerala, that journey has begun with one city,” he said, adding that growing public trust in the BJP reflected dissatisfaction with the existing political order.

Calling the civic victory the “beginning of change in Kerala”, Modi alleged that both the LDF and the United Democratic Front (UDF) had failed to develop the state capital and had pushed Kerala into corruption and misgovernance. Assuring residents of visible transformation, he said Thiruvananthapuram would be developed into a model city. Modi is in Kerala to launch multiple development projects and flag off new train services in the state capital.
