Modi Targets Congress At Assam Rally
PM cites BJP’s civic poll wins, flags infiltration and development
January 18, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the Bharatiya Janata Party’s recent electoral successes while launching a sharp attack on the Congress during a rally in Assam’s Kaliabor. Linking civic poll victories to growing national momentum, Modi cited the BJP’s historic win in Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, its first mayoral victory in Thiruvananthapuram, and a record mandate in Bihar, projecting the party as the country’s dominant political force ahead of key elections.
Turning his focus to Assam, the Prime Minister accused the Congress of practising “infiltration politics” for decades to retain power. He alleged that the party had protected infiltrators as a vote bank, harming Assam’s cultural identity, security, and demographic balance. Modi claimed unchecked infiltration had led to crime, encroachment on tribal land, and long-term damage to the state, warning that such policies posed a threat to both Assam and national security.
Praising the BJP-led Assam government, Modi said decisive action against infiltration and illegal encroachments had earned national recognition. He also laid the foundation stone for the ₹6,950-crore Kaziranga elevated corridor, aimed at ensuring safe wildlife movement during floods, and highlighted that Kaziranga reported zero rhino poaching deaths in 2025. The Prime Minister further flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, stressing improved connectivity for the Northeast, and concluded by asserting that voters across India increasingly view the BJP as their first choice due to its focus on governance and development.
